When I was in elementary school, I won second place in a contest where we talked about our dreams and aspirations. My speech was about how I would become a chef that would spread Korean food around the world. Lots of parents laughed at my story but also cheered me on. This speech really stuck with me till this day.
My cooking journey started in college since the small American town it was located in lacked Korean restaurants. Living away from my home, I had to learn how to cook for myself. Especially because I quickly got sick of the the bland food they served in the dorms.
A quick Google search for Korean recipes led me to Maangchi's website. Her fun personality and dependable recipes got me into a cooking craze. I made anything and everything from Bulgogi to Kimchi. To this day, I owe my cooking passion to her.
Fast forward to early 2016, I decided to go vegan overnight. But I quickly figured out that most of the Korean food I loved had a meat or fish in it. Making dishes without them simply lacked flavor. I also noticed the lack of vegan Korean cooks and blogs on the web. So that's how this blog came into fruition.
My mission is to experiment and develop simple yet delicious plant-based Korean recipes that anyone can make. Recipes that remind you of the food you grew up with or ate in Korea, with a little less cruelty.
Join me on this blog as I explore Korean food from a vegan perspective!
Warmest Regards,
Alex Lee
