When a Korean recipe calls for sesame oil, it's always toasted sesame oil, never raw sesame oil.
Any sesame oil you buy at a Korean grocery will be toasted. Beware as sesame oil sold in American groceries may be from untoasted/raw sesame. This has a completely different flavor and should not be used in Korean cooking.
When buying sesame oil, buy good quality sesame oil. Cheap sesame oil has little to no flavor and as a result dishes which rely on sesame flavor suffer in flavor.
If you can't decide, just buy the most expensive one. A good brand available almost everywhere is Kadoya.
After going vegan, I missed eating Korean food I grew up with. Seeing the lack of resources on plant-based Korean cooking, I decided to develop and share delicious and easy vegan Korean recipes that anyone can make!
